Alan Wake Review

Alan Wake an action thriller game developed by Remedy follows an unaccepted protagonist Alan Wake. His dream of a quiet peaceful getaway from the fame of being a well acclaimed fiction writer with his wife turns into a living nightmare. In the cleverly named town of Bright Falls a dark and mysterious force has kidnapped and now attacks Alan Wake. The only way to destroy them is through the powers of light and bullets. He must fight his way through eerie woods, abandon wood mills, and other areas of the little town of Bright Falls to find his beloved wife who is coincidentally afraid of the dark.

This game brings many aspects into the gamers experience to heighten the game play. You play as a relatively ordinary man who has never killed or fought anyone before and now has to in order to rescue his wife. The game is based at night in many dark mysterious areas. With the darkness comes the unusual enemy, an enemy that cannot die without light. Like zombies the idea of having an enemy coming to kill you knowing it cannot dies gives a feeling of terror. To add to this the enemy is covered in darkness and in many areas they would blend in with the shadows that surround them. The weapon of choice for this evil creature is a regular everyday axe. All of these combine make your enemy quite creepy and gives you thrill that leaves you at the edge of your seat while playing. The fighting can be intense and very interactive. There is no just point your gun and take out as many people as you can. It is more complex than that. You must point a light at the darkness that is your enemy until the darkness leaves them then you may shoot. Having to do this every time you fight makes the fighting more intense in the way that you must keep yourself vigilant and moving.

The game plays like a movie. With many cut scenes telling a dark and mysterious story of the ominous town of Bright Falls. Split up into seven chapters the story is constantly making you question what is going to happen next. To make it even more suspenseful at the end of each chapter is a cliffhanger forcing you to continue in order to see what happens next.
