Review of: Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2

Title: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
System: Xbox 360/Playstation 3
Genre: First-person Shooter

The Call of Duty series has made an insane amount of money in the videogame industry. The most recent one which is the sequel to Infinity Ward's COD Modern Warfare was highly anticipated and believed to have sold the most copies out of the other COD games. Honestly every game is the same and it always has some sort of multiplayer system which sucks. Every game has a decent sort of story line and this game has the same level in decency. Pretty much it is a WW III scenario and you play as different character. One is part of an elite task force and the other part of the Rangers. Eventually you play as Soap the main character in the previous Modern Warfare. The campaign reveals a plot to instigate a World War between Russia and the USA. You act as a Ranger officer that successfully does his job in fighting the Russians. Also you play as Soap and end up killing the US General Shepard who is responsible for starting the World War. The campaign involves both stealth and action which appealed to me. It appealed to most player but the reason people usually buy the COD games is for the competitive multiplayer.

First off the sound/music and the graphic were pretty top notch. You felt like you were in a war and like most first person shooters it is filled with action whose purpose is to get your adrenaline going. The music fit and the graphics were good enough while the Spec Ops challenges allowed for intense challenging scenarios. As always there are challenges for points and a customizable class system allowing for different strategies to be used.
Unfortunately even though the game is decent the multiplayer was unbalanced. Everything is too easy for the player since all the guns are very accurate requiring no skill and the overpowered weapons are the most used because of their power meaning there is no diversity. This means that in multiplayer games you will kill three enemies using the same gun. The guns are unrealistic and some perks or guns were overpowered. For example the perk marathon is both unrealistic and unbalanced. It allows for your player to sprint forever, no breaks, no water, just running. This does not make sense how can a human being constantly sprint full speed forever. This perk also gives the unfair advantage of allowing you to get to locations in the map faster than others. So you can then ambush the enemy team when they thought that the territory they were in was safe because unless the other team had that perk on it would be impossible to reach there at the start of the game. Another perk is commando which allows the player to have a farther melee range. In other words when an enemy is 3 feet away from you, you can knife them in an instant by lunging at them faster than their shotgun can shoot. It seems unrealistic that a person can travel 3 feet in such short a time to save themselves from dying to a shotgun. Also some guns like SMG's have an unbelievable accuracy which seems very over powered.
The SMG is a gun meant for medium to close range and it is used by special forces for urban and closed interior spaces. Then why can it take out a sniper that is across the map by simply shooting single shots. The SMG has a large clip, fast rate of fire, and it has 2 flaws in real life. One is that it has less penetrating power while the other is that distance for accuracy is limited. Unfortunately in the game SMG are very accurate long range and so their only flaw is less power. That can be fixed with a perk that increases bullet damage and so you are given an ultimate weapon which has very good stats. The term known as "Quick Scoping" is also foolish and unrealistic. Quick Scoping has become a sensation in the game. Now people base skill on how good you can quick scope. Quick Scope means to aim with a sniper rifle very quickly and shoot. In other words you press the left trigger which aims down the gun sight and let go in less than half a second. At the same time you shoot and the gun tends to be accurate. A sniper rifle is very inaccurate when not on a level surface and people are capable of shooting others while running with a sniper rifle. The game is not very realistic while the guns and perks are overpowered. Many times have I yelled at the game for not giving the sense of realism that most war games try to give.

COD Modern Warfare 2 has a decent campaign, music, and graphic type. However the multiplayer needs to seriously be balanced and actually adopt some of the laws of physics our scientists have worked so hard to show us. Why is it that the pistol has no bullet drop I mean there is gravity right? I am capable of taking out an enemy at sniper range with a pistol and that surely is unlikely in life. This game is mostly bought for its multiplayer and since everyone only plays the campaign a maximum of 3 times it gets a C. This game has a worthless multiplayer and underappreciated campaign.
