Review of: Conker's Bad Fur Day

Reviewer: Dan McDonough
Title: Conker's Bad Fur Day
System: Nintendo 64
Genre: Action/Platformer

Parental Advisory is suggested

I was looking to buy a new game for my n64, seeing how my 360 has the red ring once
again. Most of the classics were $20, or $25, but this one title I’ve never heard of was $40, which I was absolutely not going to pay for an N64 game. Then I asked the owner of the store why a game about a stupid squirrel was so much. He said “Conker’s Bad Fur day” may be the funniest, yet most vulgar game he’s ever played. Of course it has great graphics too, but who really cares about graphics, when you play a squirrel who gets piss drunk, quite literally. Your inebriated squirrel uses his urine as a gun, and the cherry on top, he fights a giant sewage monster. At that point I threw two Andrew Jackson’s at the man, and left with the most expensive N64 game I have ever bought. Honestly, I don’t know how this game got an “M” rating, it should be rated “A.”
The good thing is this game didn’t only focus on being as obscene as possible. They kept it hilarious, while still incorporating good game play. It kept the controls simple, yet Conker still had a good range of motion. Conker is also given special abilities by stepping on pads. These include turning into an anvil and slow motion abilities. Conker himself stumbles though all sorts of huge worlds encountering enemies and allies in what has to be the most brilliantly paced layout ever applied to a 3D platformer of this type.
The levels are mostly spoofs of famous movies, or historical events that include D-Day, The Matrix, Saving Private Ryan, Jaws, and The Terminator. All of these are brilliantly mapped out, and will leave you laughing until you have a six pack. Conker’s dialogue includes all of the seven words you can’t say on TV, and more. The graphics of this title could pass off for a good Play Station 2 game which is unbelievable for an N64 game. The developers went as far as designing Conker’s facial expressions based on his mood. An average gamer can squeeze about 14-17 hours of game play out of this. After that they still have a great multiplayer mode, with a variety of funny mini games. The only downside is the price tag, but I would pay 60$ for this masterpiece.

Graphics: A
Sound: A-
Gameplay: A
Lasting Appeal: A+
Overall: A
